Generating a New AnyDesk ID

This script helps in creating a new AnyDesk ID (currently Windows-only, but a Linux version is in the works). It does this by removing the directories where AnyDesk saves its ID data. On Windows, this location is C:\ProgramData\AnyDesk, and for Linux, it’s either /root/.anydesk or /etc/anydesk. The script also erases AnyDesk user profiles stored in local user directories, as the AnyDesk ID is duplicated there as well (C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\AnyDesk for Windows, and /home/<username>/.anydesk for Linux).

Some may argue this approach is aggressive, as it wipes out all AnyDesk settings—including history and recent session details—but I consider it reliable. While it’s true that the AnyDesk ID is saved in the system.conf file (found in C:\ProgramData\AnyDesk on Windows and /root/.anydesk or /etc/anydesk for Linux), I’ve encountered cases where simply removing this file did not result in a new ID. Using this “clean slate” method ensures the ID changes effectively. Although it resets AnyDesk settings to their defaults, you can be sure you’ll get a brand-new ID.

Important Note:

To run the script successfully, you’ll need administrative privileges. In Windows, right-click the script and select “Run as administrator.” For Linux, execute it as root after setting the appropriate permissions with chmod +x /path/to/script.
